Design Brief

Founded in 2010, WeWork is the fastest growing collaborative space network in the world. They provide stylish; shared workspaces for talented entrepreneurs, freelancers and start-ups which develop a community ecosystem between their members.

With new space in the heart of Soho, they asked Oktra for a fast-track solution that offered a multifunctional space which resonated with Soho’s rich artistic and creative history.

Playing host to a thriving community of members, WeWork’s ability to service their employees and members’ accumulated needs is at the core of their service offering. They wanted an organic community environment that was both attractive and customisable to suit the objectives and personality of each company and tenant.

Solution

The facility boasts open plan office spaces, state of the art meeting and conference rooms, a large divisible event area, an incredible variety of breakout and informal meeting zones and a trendy micro-roasted coffee house.

With companies from across the world using this Soho hub, Oktra saw the importance in creating an inspiring ‘neighbourhood’ that welcomed everyone. Using stripped-back decor with recognisable album cover posters lining the walls; bright warm lights and a wide range of timbers; meeting rooms and breakout spaces spring to life with a comfortable, personalised atmosphere, a true ‘home-away-from-home’ in the centre of London.

The tech industry drive the majority of WeWork’s membership and it was important that state-of-the-art tools and equipment were readily available. Ergonomic, 24-hour chairs and sit/stand workstations are used in open plan areas and high tech IT and video conferencing systems are integrated throughout the space, allowing members to be as connected and productive as possible.

As communication is crucial to the success of any collaborative company, Oktra saw noise becoming a potential issue for the 12,000 sq ft space. This was resolved in using wall-spanning glass partitioning, which reflects sound and breaks up the floor plate into clusters. These double-glazed dividers flood the space with daylight that still allows occupants privacy, without users feeling isolated from the wider community.

Outcome
